PV 200 For the Green Encore Fellows Program

This is an intensive 5-day workshop that teaches the fundamentals of solar electric PV design and installation. This workshop is intended for individuals who work with disadvantaged youth (young adults) to help them develop careers in the green economy. The workshop is primarily for seasoned tradesmen and teachers who are moving into their "encore" careers; careers focused on working toward the greater good.

The workshop is a combination of presentation, practice, and hands-on labs to provide participants with a thorough experience working with solar electricity. Participants will learn how to design and install GRID TIED PV Systems; they will also receive some training in Stand Alone PV Systems and Grid Tied PV Systems with battery backup.

Participants will be given training curriculum and learn how to set up training laboratories. We will also discuss the particular skills and strategies that will give their students (or mentees) the best chance to land rewarding jobs in the renewable energy field.

Participants will also be invited to participate in follow up informal meetings after the workshop in order to share their knowledge and further discuss how to leverage encore talent (their experience) to develop their solar electric programs. Individuals are coming from Philadelphia, Detroit, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Richmond, and San Jose to participate in this training.

The workshop is free, but travel and accommodations are not. We will provide breakfast and lunch....and plan to host a group dinner.

The workshop will be held at Ohlone Community College in Newark California, 39399 Cherry Street. The building is a state of the art, LEED Platinum building that is powered by solar electricity and heated by geothermal energy.
